Painting by Charles Robert Patterson 2D to 3D by zippy6234 Painting by Charles Robert Patterson 2D to 3D by zippy6234

I just thought I would try and convert a painting with tall ships in. This was my attempt at something with all the rigging etc.

Oil painting by Charles Robert Patterson depicting the action between US Frigate Constitution and HMS Java, 29 December 1812. Constitution (at left), commanded by CAPT. William Bainbridge, exchanging broadsides with the British Frigate HMS Java off Brazil early in the action. During nearly two hours of battle, Java was dismasted and had to surrender. Her damage was so severe that she had to be burned. Photographed in 1948, when the original painting was hanging on board the Presidential Yacht USS Williamsburg.
US Navy photo 80-G-K-9451 now in the collections of the US National Archives

The Depthmap I made for this conversion can be found here... zippy6234.deviantart.com/art/H…

I make the depth maps in photoshop, then use Bas Relief for the conversion.

No doubt:  you are the "2D-to-3D conversion wizard".   Very nicely done.

Maybe I should stop... im not doing it to try and be better than anyone else.

I was just told it is addictive once I start, and I probably take 10 times longer than the real conversion wizards here.

So I would rather thank those guys for any help they have passed to me on the way.

My wife always lets me know about the imaging I'm doing now.  She say's "you are either very persistent or obsessed....."  I guess there is a fine line there.  I do cross the line sometimes.

This stuff (3D imaging) IS addictive.

I have a few 3D images I done with Poser once too. I too would not leave it alone, and that's when my camera took over for 3D.

Any 3D if not a job is an addictive hobby to some, and an enjoyment just to view by others.
